The Family Dance Project

Families were invited to come along to a 50-minute dance session. We had eight families at a time and repeated the session four times in different locations.

The purpose of this research project was:

  • How can adults and children both benefit from the experience of dancing together in structured sessions?

  • How do all the different toys and props we use in our sessions enhance, benefit, or distract from this process?

  • How can we develop approaches that are inclusive, integrated and equitable for all participants?

All families were given full details of the sessions and asked to complete consent forms to use their data and images for this project. This was a qualitative research project which was interested in how grownups and children experienced dancing together as families. The data was obtained through filling in questionnaires, taking photos and videos and Linda's observations and analysis.
